These organizations have been established to simplify standards on plastic pipes internationally. The ODP values give the manufacturer an efficient way to specify product dimensions to maintain constant mechanical properties regardless of pipe size. In other words, for a given pressure capacity and pipe diameter, the required pipe wall thickness decreases as the pipe size decreases. Even though the terms DR and SDR are synonymous, one minor difference between them is that SDR refers only to a particular series of numbers.
