Haunted Houses I Have Worked In: My Experience as a Plumber

There was a famous show based on this theme: plumber by day and ghost hunter by night. As a plumber, I always laughed at this statement because I never believed it to be true until the night I had a supernatural encounter that still gives me goosebumps as I write these lines two years later.

Let us go back two years when one of my friends recommended that I also work night shifts because he had some clients for whom it was okay to work late at home or in the office. It was the winter season and I did not have any extra work or housework, so I decided to join him. He sent me the address and we both decided to go there individually. I got there early and the office security guard suggested I wait for my friend so we could both enter the office together. However, I casually declined and insisted that he let me go so that I could investigate the cause of the blockage in the meantime. He agreed and I entered the office.

The office was not particularly large, with only a few cubicles and a total of three separate rooms. The problem was in the toilet of the first room, which was causing a constant leak. I started unpacking my tools in the office room and took the tile setter and hacksaw into the bathroom. When I got to the bathroom, I started the initial work and needed other tools, so I decided to go back. When I returned to the room, my plumber’s bag was not there. For the first five minutes I doubted if I had put the bag somewhere else or if the guard had taken it behind my back. So I decided to go back to the guard to ask, and the moment I approached the door, the door was suddenly closed in the blink of an eye and I found myself locked in the room alone. I got a little nervous and started to call out to the guard for help, but I was not sure if he could even hear me. I struggled with the door and it opened again. I was so relieved, but when I turned around, my bag was just lying there, on a table. The whole thing made me a little nervous and I started walking quickly to meet the guard. When I reached the last booth, he was standing there and said, “Have you finished your work?” I answered in the negative and described to him the scenario I was facing. He stared at me blankly for fifteen seconds and began to laugh. I was perplexed and thought he had played a joke on me, and I was worried and angry at him at the same time; that’s when my friend came up behind me and asked me why I was standing there alone. I turned around and saw him standing there, accompanied by the same guard who was standing right in front of me a few seconds ago. I started screaming and asked my friend to run with me.

Somehow we managed to get out of the office together with the security guard, and I could not talk for an hour about the scene I had just witnessed. After I gathered some courage, I told my friend the whole scenario, and we were in shock for days. After some time, we learned that it was a functioning office, but they did not do late shifts because it was haunted and some of the employees had bad experiences. After that experience, I never went back to working night shifts alone. However, I have had some experiences with haunted houses, but they were not as horrible as this one.
